It’s almost time for the new year (!!!) which means it’s time for the cycle to begin: you come up with a resolution to exercise every day of the new year or to stop watching TV, and after just a few weeks of being able to stick to your goals, you fall back into your old ways. Because I know that this is bound to happen when I set unrealistic goals with no wiggle room, I really love the idea of forgoing the normal New Year’s resolutions for thoughts and statements that I’ll live by that year.
Last year, my New Year’s resolution was to be intentional (with my time, my words, and my money). The general idea I had for myself was if I were being intentional with my time, I wouldn’t spend hours watching Netflix; instead, I would spend some of that time doing something more constructive.
This year, my “statement” for the new year is live with purpose. This is similar to my resolution last year, but I think it’s even more fitting for the idea I want to live by. I want to work toward a goal, whether it be bettering my blog, my personal fitness, or my own emotional well-being. I’m not going to make any promises to go to the gym every day because I know that within the promise there’s a possibility for disappointment. Instead, I’m going to live with purpose and make the choice to go to the gym instead of scrolling on my phone. But, even if I don’t go to the gym, I won’t berate myself.
I received this mug in a giveaway, and I thought I would share the company’s description because it really sums up what I want my intention to be this year.
When there is a purpose there is a reason. As we start each day, we can know that our lives have purpose and meaning and we can make a difference in the world around us. Discover the strengths and talents that you have and share those with others and live each day with purpose. – the created co.
What are your resolutions this year? How are you going to live with purpose?
