Summer is here, so it’s officially internship/new job season! If you’re in college like me or just a year or two postgrad, you know this struggle. You need to start integrating business/business casual clothing into your wardrobe… but you’re working on a college budget! Over this past school year, I’ve found myself reaching for business casual clothes even more – for interviews, presentations, and more. I had a single outfit that was my go-to “professional look” but after having to wear it twice in one week, I knew I needed to start shopping! While you’re building your professional wardrobe, keep in mind pieces that you can style as workwear and for the weekend.
I’m working with Express to share their pieces on my Instagram, and I knew I’d also want to chat about the looks over here on the blog! As a college girl shopping on a college girl budget, I can’t completely revamp my wardrobe overnight. Instead, here and there, I’ve started adding pieces that are workwear-appropriate but still my style. That way, I’m getting as much use as possible out of each piece!
For this outfit, the workwear star is this pink velvet cami. To style this to be work-appropriate (in some offices!), I would tuck it into black pants and add a black or neutral blazer. It’s thick enough that you’ll be warm in your office even when they blast the AC, plus the velvet takes the classic shape up a notch. Wear it at work, but don’t shove it in your closet until Monday!
To style this workwear on the weekend, I simply tucked it into some super high-waisted denim shorts and wore sandals. To make it even more fun, I threw my hair in a high pony and added these resin flower earrings. Truly, I think statement earrings are my love language. In high school, even though I wore a uniform, I always tried to skirt by the rules by wearing bright statement earrings. I owned so many in high school that I haven’t let myself buy. new ones in years! I’m glad I went for these though – they are SO lightweight. Because there are a ton of colors in them, I know I’ll get all the wear.
I’m sure I’ll get plenty of wear in this look this summer for my internship experience! I’ll be coming into the Alabama Magazine office on Mondays and Tuesdays starting in June, and I’m so excited. This will be my first summer not working as a day camp counselor in some way, and I’m ready for a change! I can’t wait to share more about my experience there when I start.
Hope you have an amazing workweek! Or if you’re one of the lucky ones like me on summer vacation, enjoy that relaxation!
