5 Instagrammable Spots in Downtown Birmingham

colorful Woodlawn Mural

There’s nothing better than finding a new Instagrammable spot in your favorite city! Whether you’re a blogger, visiting Birmingham for a weekend, or just looking to up your Instagram game, Birmingham is full of beautiful spots. Today, I’m rounding up 5 of my favorite instagrammable spots in downtown Birmingham so you can add them to your to-do list! Plus, I’m including a graphic that you can download to your phone to make your Birmingham exploration as easy as possible.

It’s Nice to Have You in Birmingham

112 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd North

This is THE infamous Birmingham sign. Every once in a while there are other people taking photos, but that just means you can get a group photo! Your photographer will want to stand far enough that you can get the full effects of the mural.

The Collins Bar

2125 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203

Obviously, the Collins Bar isn’t a mural – but I had to include it! If you stand at an angle towards the bar, you get the cutest view of their red and white stripes. Plus, if you’re taking your photos during the day, you won’t have to deal with any type of crowd. Find more of these photos on my summer uniform blog post!

Vulcan Mural Project

1818 3rd Avenue North

At the Vulcan Mural Project, you can either get a full-fledged photo with each of the “statues”, or you can stand between two of the brightly colored lines. This is an incredibly colorful mural and is a total Birmingham staple with the Vulcan features.

Keeping an Eye on Birmingham

1st Ave. North and 39th Street

The whole mural actually includes beautifully detailed eyes (you can see a better picture on Carlyle Thornton’s blog here!). For my blog photos, I decided to take photos towards the side where there’s a fun honeycomb print. Keep in mind, this mural is on the side of a building that’s a bit further from the other three. You’ll want to drive, and as with any downtown area, make sure you’re with others and using your best judgment!

Woodlawn Mural

6 55th Place

This mural is the furthest outside of town, and it’s next to an incredible breakfast/coffee spot: Woodlawn Cycle Cafe. The whole mural actually spells out Woodlawn, but with close-up pictures, all you see are these fun white lines.

Download this graphic to keep it on your phone for easy access if you’re visiting Birmingham! It’s full of these instagrammable spots in downtown Birmingham, plus their addresses in the order that I shot the photos.

Birmingham is my favorite city, and every time I explore downtown, I find so many new spots. I had so much fun having a full photo shoot day with one of my best friends, Greer, because we found tons of unexpected places.

Let me know what your favorite Birmingham spots are if you’re local! And of course, let me know if you’re ever visiting and need any recommendations!
