Once I discover something new to fall in love with, I. Fall. Hard. If I make a new smoothie recipe, I’m craving it (and making it) every single day. If I like a new song, it’s on repeat. Hello, King of Rock ‘n Roll & s/o to “I’m Not Okay With This”. And when it comes to outfits… I am a major creature of habit. When I find a new style to wear, I wear it all the time. Enter: mom jeans.
If you’ve been following along on Instagram for a while now, you know that I work with Express! With this partnership, I select clothing to style and share on my feed. This month, I picked up these jeans and I haven’t stopped wearing them since. This pair is $88 which is pricy in my college student opinion, BUT I can attest that their jeans are amazing quality. Save the link & pick it up when Express goes on sale OR check out a thrift store for some amazing OG mom jeans. I think that styling mom jeans can be a little intimidating, so today I’m sharing 3 of my favorite tips that help me feel my best.
1. Start with a bodysuit
Last month I bought my very first bodysuit… and immediately found 3 ways to style it. I am officially a bodysuit convert & I grabbed this adorable “Whatever Babe” graphic tee-style bodysuit. It had been on sale every time I checked out Express’s website & I was always eyeing out, so I finally took the plunge. It was SO worth it because I’m already in love. There are only 2 sizes left (XS and L) as I’m writing this post, but if you’re either of those, I highly recommend grabbing this while it’s only $10.
Mom jeans can feel a little bit clunky to me, so by pairing the oversized fit with a sleek, wrinkle-free bodysuit, you have a great balance of fits. Plus, with high-waisted mom jeans like this, you don’t have to worry about tucking/retucking anything.
2. Add some heels
I’m 5’2″ and loose-fitting pants make me look even shorter! I love wearing heels anyway, and these ankle boots are a current favorite of mine… even though they’re loud & I clack my way through every hallway I walk down. When it comes to styling mom jeans, I love wearing heels because they create that balance and elongate my legs. While we’re having this weird stormy weather, I’m sticking with ankle boots. In the summer I think these will look so cute with wedges or heeled espadrilles.
3. Incorporate coordinating details
This is something I like to do no matter what pants I’m wearing, but I wanted to mention this because this step always pulls together the outfit. For this outfit, I paired my favorite Target bralette (only $13 right now & the absolute best) to match the color of the jeans. Then, I wore some cutie Express earrings that coordinated with my bodysuit. These are all such small details, but little details like that are the reason I started blogging! I remember how excited I would get when I was wearing silver rings that matched my silver shoes & I wished someone would notice it – ha!
I really cannot wait until there’s better weather so I can wear this outfit to class. Plus, I’m so vibing everything this bodysuit has to say. “You’re running late but you had time to make coffee?” Whatever babe. “You’ve got a ton to do but you still found time to watch the newest Bachelor episode?” Whatever babe. Truly, my new motto.
