I’m sharing the unusual Sunday post on the blog to talk about something I don’t always: faith! While this is a blog about style and everyday choices, my mission statement is “showing you the sunny side through fashion inspiration and encouraging words”. As a Catholic, I believe the most encouraging words are the ones that remind us of who we are and where our value truly lies. If this post isn’t your style, I’ll see you tomorrow on the blog talking all about fashion! But if you’re looking for some encouraging words, I hope that this blog post reaches you where you need it.
“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!” Job 1:21
In the midst of all of this uncertainty and confusion (and honestly, fear and frustration), I’ve decided to dive into Job. Who better to understand what we’re going through than a man who’s known for his suffering?! I’m no Bible expert by any means – forever grateful for the people who can share their wisdom! But I believe that God places certain verses on our hearts at the exact moments we’ll need them.
Two weeks ago, I opened up Job for the first time and read the first chapter. That day, we found out that graduation was postponed, and that verse kept coming back to my mind. It is so easy for me to praise the Lord when things are going my way—whether it’s getting the grades I want, opportunities for my blog, or even just days I’m in a great mood. But what about when things aren’t working out? Like Job, I want to praise the Lord in all things and have trust that somehow, He will use those things for good.
Like everyone else, I’m not sure how this will end. That uncertainty terrifies me. I am a grade-A planner—I have seriously planned my day by the 15-minute block sometimes! I hate not knowing what to expect. But even that uncertainty is a lesson for me! God doesn’t promise certainty. He doesn’t promise us our dream job, He doesn’t promise us any relationships… He doesn’t even promise us our graduation. But He does promise us His love and grace. I’m trying to use this time as a reminder that (despite what our world tells us and what I’ve told myself) that is everything we’d ever need!
So, prayers going up that as you’re reading this post, you find something that can comfort you in some way, or at the very least, let you know you’re not alone in your feelings right now.
